The Aoi mon is, with the imperial chrysanthemum mon, the most famous emblem in Japan, being the mark of the Tokugawa shoguns. There are many conflicting stories about who first created and used this kamon, but it is often said that the Matsudaira (who would later become Tokugawa, with Ieyasu) designed it after the Tachi Aoi mon of the Honda. There are about 200 known variations of
